His predecessors had moved from Bukhara in current Uzbekistan. When he was six months old, his guardians migrated to Malakwal. There his father, Shah Muhammad Darwaish, was a minister in the town mosque and an educator. His father later landed a position in Pandoke, around 50 miles southeast of Kasur. Bulleh Shah got his initial educating in Pandoke and moved to Kasur for advanced education. He additionally got training from Maulana Mohiyuddin.
